A Structured, Holistic Approach to Individual Therapy

At ICFT, therapy for individuals is not one-size-fits-all.

Your therapist will take time to understand your history, your present experiences, and what you want your life to look like. From there, we build a structured approach that is tailored to you. Our goal is to bring about short-term relief and long-term change, so that the insight you gain in therapy carries over into your everyday life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your first session is a chance to get to know your therapist and share what brought you to therapy. There is no pressure to cover everything at once. Your therapist will listen, ask questions, and begin to understand your goals so you can build a treatment plan together. Our clients report leaving the first session feeling heard, and many even have some ideas about potential next steps.

If you are navigating mental health challenges, feeling stuck in patterns that affect everyday life, or simply seeking personal growth and heightened self-awareness, individual therapy can help. Our therapists offer a supportive environment where you can explore your concerns at your own pace. If you are unsure, we are happy to talk through whether individual therapy, couples therapy, or another service is the right starting point.

ICFT's therapists are licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) trained to work with individuals, couples, and families. Unlike a licensed independent social worker or psychologist, MFTs specialize in understanding how relationships and family systems shape mental health. This relational lens informs how we approach individual therapy, even when you are the only person in the room.

Individual therapy focuses on your personal experiences, emotions, and goals. Couples therapy and family therapy bring two or more people into the room to work on shared dynamics and communication. Some clients do both. If you started in individual therapy and feel couples therapy or family counseling could also help, your therapist can discuss that with you. ICFT also offers premarital counseling and discernment counseling for clients navigating relationship decisions.

Yes. In addition to in-person sessions at our Dublin, Ohio, office, ICFT offers virtual appointments across the state of Ohio. Telehealth is a convenient option for clients who prefer to meet from home or have limited time for commuting to an appointment.
